Simon Schmitz

Simon Schmitz is a Berlin-based lighting designer who describes himself as somewhere between a designer, sculptor and puppeteer. For him a light is more a sculpture than a piece of furniture, and his work balances function with artistry and a sense of drama. He pays close attention to how objects work, move and behave, believing that understanding a mechanism leads to a more conscious interaction with it. He has designed lighting for brands including Martinelli Luce, Ligne Roset, DCW Editions and Rakumba.
